The rehearsal process will probably not have enough time is rarely to train actors for the physical and contact work demanded by the production.

The Fight or Intimacy Director/Coordinator will create the action based on the actors physicality, ability and comfort (boundaries). Which is why training and experience is so highly valued.

In your professional career it is highly likely that you will perform some form of emotive physical action from a kiss to a sword fight.

Intimacy and Stage Combat are based in similar principles and form a unique culmination of all the actor’s disciplines: voice, movement, script study and performance confidence. You will gain a physical vocabulary that will aid your rehearsal process and can help protect you both mentally. emotionally and physically.

As well as how to work safely while being physical. There are many transferable skills: setting boundaries, learning how to work with others bodies, interpreting movement, inclusivity, truthfully storytelling, terminology, integrating the voice into the physical, being repeatable and accurate, learn how you learn best, H&S including any legal ramifications, improved coordination and confidence.

Absolutely not, many actors come to intimacy and stage combat through drama school and then continue their training after a few years of being out in the world. Many come back years later.

We cater for all levels of fitness and ability, we work with what ever you bring us.

The British Academy of Dramatic Combat is the oldest Stage Combat Academy in the world, established originally as the Society of British Fight Director (SBFD) in 1969, changing its name and directive in 1996.

Most Academies were originally based on the original BADC’s system in some way.
